Applicants should ideally have a background in debating, or an interest in training as a debater in order to create debating societies and run public discussions on civil and political issues at a community level. As the course is designed to give others the skills to teach debate and organise large debating events, applicants should have a passion for sharing their knowledge and a commitment to continually developing their own debating abilities.

Successful applicants will receive free accommodation and meals for the duration of the training course in Bishkek. Participants from outside of Bishkek who may need financial assistance to travel to Kyrgyztsan will need to contact Altynai Djumasheva at adjumasheva@idebate.org stating the amount needed for travel and providing a justification for the need of subsidy.

British Parliamentary debating is one of the world’s most popular debating styles, practiced in more than 70 countries around the world by countless universities, schools and clubs. British Parliamentary debating is also the format of choice for the World University Debating Championships, the largest multi-national public speaking event on the planet. For two decades, the unique features of British Parliamentary debate have helped students to improve their confidence, their understanding of the English language and their academic performance.

IDEA British Parliamentary Debate Training offers participants a unique opportunity to learn the BP format and get involved in British Parliamentary debating’s highly active international community. The course will also teach the fundamentals of debate judging and training, enabling participants to begin competing in debate tournaments and passing on their newly acquired skills to others straight away.

The rules and nuances of the BP format will be taught via innovative debating exercises, intensive coaching and a series of full BP style debates.

In addition, course participants will be able to attend seminars on setting up and expanding a debating society; running public debates in cooperation with activists, the media and community leaders; running competitive debating events; and obtaining funding for national and international debating projects.

Course participants will also receive free copies of IDEBATE Press training manuals, to provide them with further support as they develop their debating careers.

Individuals wishing to attend the camp must first complete an application form- available online or via email- that will be used to record details of their academic background, motives for attending the camp, English speaking ability and previous debating experience.

For more information and to send your application, motivation letter and a request for travel grant, please contact Altynai Djumasheva at adjumasheva@idebate.org

The training will be conducted by Alexander Cavell. Alex will be assisted by 2 co-trainers, who will be announced at the later date:
